Worms

What is a worm?

Worms are very similar to viruses in that they are computer programs that replicate themselves and that often, but not always, contain some functionality that will hinder a PC and/or programs.

As they do not attach themselves to files and use the operating system they are often invisible and undetected until they use so much resource that the systems slow down and even halt! Most worms also carry a malicious payload. A worm moves independently, unlike a virus which will be attached to a file or program, so can spread over a network independently.
