Why protect yourself against a computer virus?
A Virus is a self-replicating program that is usually written to disperse itself widely and cause damage. The extent of the damage varies in severity and may cause serious system problems, including loss of files or hardware damage. Whenever you are infected it will cost you time and money.
There are many varieties the most common being:
- - Boot Sector Virus: This kind of virus can prevent you from being able to boot your hard disk.
- - File Virus: These executables infect applications and spread through related documents and applications.
- - Macro Virus: these affect Microsoft Office applications, A document infected with a macro virus generally modifies a command i.e. save or print to trigger payload upon execution of that command.
- - Multipartite Virus: infects both files and the boot sector. This virus can continually re-infect a system dozens of times unless it is detected and removed.
- - Polymorphic Virus: changes code when it passes to another machine.
- - Stealth Virus: works by concealing itself so the infected file will not appear to be infected.
